Gautham Vasudev Menon does things with style and elan. The launch of his audio label Photon Kathaas Music (PKM), took place on Thursday (9 Dec) night at the best address in town the prestigious landmark in Chennai, Music Academy. PKM’s first album was Kandaen, which has refreshingly new peppy sounds by debutant music director Vijay Ebenezer. The cream among music directors Harris Jayaraj and Yuvan Shankar Raja jointly launched the audio in the presence of ‘numero uno’ star Suriya.
Since it was Kandaen audio launch Shanthanoo the hero of the film was present along with his parents K Bhagyaraj and Poornima, who came to give him the moral support. The guest list of directors included Prabhu Deva, Lingusamy, Parthipan, Ameer, Dharani, Suseendran, actors Sangeetha, Shammu, Sibiraj and Jai. What made the event unique was that Carnatic singer Aruna Sairam started the function by rendering a classical number. This was followed by popular singers like Krish, Haricharan, Suchitra, Priya Hemmesh and sensational new singer Gurupriya rendering evergreen melodies, with Kandaen music director Vijay Ebenzer on the piano.
Harris Jayaraj remarked: “The success of Gautham Menon is that he has an ear for good music.” Yuvan said “It is great to know that Gautham is launching a music label at a time when people say that the industry is going through bad times.” Suriya explained how crucial Haris and Yuvan’s music played a role in his career. Later the Kandaen music team played unplugged versions of songs from the film, which is sure going to be chartbusters. Gautham’s planning and execution made it something totally different from the run-of-the-mill music audio launches.
