Sreenivasan against Stardom

The lack of producers with creativity and the greed for money among film stars seems to be the biggest problem for Mollywood, according to the senior actor Sreenivasan. He was speaking at a press conference associated with the preview of his latest movie 'Aatmakatha', at Kochi.

The actor observed that Mollywood is reigned by stars who hoped of a welcome hit in the ninth film with a better director, even after their eight films have bombed in a row at the box office. Sreeni also pointed out that a section of producers is hell bent on chasing stars with commercial value, as their satellite rights of star movies are sold at huge amounts. He also remembered about the prowess of such old time producers like M O Joseph, T E Vasudevan and Hari Pothen, who succeeded in taking Malayalam movies from the regularly driven path of commercial potboilers.

Sreeni observed that it is not useful to compete with Tamil and Telugu masala movies which are made with bigger budgets. “Mollywood films had earned repute for its aesthetic values rather than their big budgets and masala contents”, said Sreenivasan.
